A preview of the source model in Data Vault entities can be opened by clicking the SDVV (Source Data Vault Visualiser) button found in the top right corner. In this view, a user can preview the Data Vault model based upon the source objects. 

When there is still an error in Source Editor, the generate button in the selection pane will be greyed out. The warning message “There are existing errors in the source” will be shown as seen in the picture below.

Switching back to the source editor and solving the issues will make it possible to generate a Data Vault preview.

During the generation of the preview, the user is not able to change anything in the current source model. This can take some time, based upon the size of the source model.

Dragging all objects (or a single object) onto the canvas will give a possibility to preview the source entity in the Data Vault model. A custom depth value gives the ability to show an appropriate number of entities related to the source object.

> ℹ️ In order to maintain good performance, there is a limitation in how many objects can be loaded into the source data vault visualizer.

By default the iconised view will be generated. This can be changed by clicking the table symbol which will convert all objects to detailed view on the canvas. Also, a single or selected number of objects can be changed to icon view and vice versa by right-clicking on the object and choosing an option in the context menu.

NOTE: In order to maintain good performance, only 30 objects can be viewed in a detailed view.

 

The detailed view of the objects will give you an overview with attributes of how the Data Vault model based on this source would look like.

No data can be changed in the SDVV preview. You can view properties, keys of objects and properties of attributes in the same fashion as in the Source Editor.

When the model needs corrections, the user can always go back to the Source Editor view and make adaptations.

> ⚠️ Important notice, for the Source Data Vault Visualizer to reflect source editor changes, an SDVV preview has to be regenerated again.
